After weeks of outcry from educators and authors, Scholastic has reversed course and announced that it will no longer separate different stories for school book fairs.

Last month, the educational company, which both publishes and distributes books, found itself in hot water after confirming that it was revising its policy for its middle school book fair offerings.
It stated that the majority of the titles dealing with race, gender, and sexuality would be added to their own collection and that schools would be able to order them like they would any other display.

Scholastic stated that the modification was made to assist districts in navigating the proliferation of book bans across the country.

According to them, such laws, which are either pending or have been implemented in more than 30 states, provide "an almost impossible dilemma: back away from these titles or risk making teachers, librarians, and volunteers vulnerable to being fired, sued, or prosecuted."
